Algol 68

ALGOL 68 is an imperative programming language created in the late 1960s. The language brought together various innovations in programming language design into a single, coherent design, including support for user-defined data types and structures. ALGOL 68 has different modes for different levels of expressiveness and complexity from simple numerical calculations to complex string manipulation or systems programming. It also popularized concepts such as iteration with loop controls and conditional expressions that were present in modern languages at the time. Despite its influential role in formalizing aspects of many later languages, ALGOL68 did not gain widespread adoption compared to other early programming languages like C or BASIC.
