Microsoft SQL Server is a relational database management system (RDBMS) developed by Microsoft. It's designed to store and retrieve data requested by other software applications, which may run either on the same computer or on another computer across a network. SQL Server incorporates Transact-SQL (T-SQL), an extension of standard SQL that adds programming constructs for use in writing queries and stored procedures. The software supports different storage engines to work with structured data, including managing XML files within the database. In addition to core RDBMS functionalities like transactions and indexing, the product offers business intelligence services through integration with other Microsoft tools such as Power BI for reporting and analysis services.
