The Howdy Glossary

Pascal is a programming language originally designed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Named after the mathematician Blaise Pascal, it was created to encourage good programming practices using structured programming and data structuring. The language includes strong compile-time type checking, supporting separate compilation of multiple files, and has found use in educational environments as an introductory language for teaching students the fundamental concepts of computer science. Pascal's influence can also be seen in derivatives like Delphi, Modula-2, Ada, and UCSD Pascal.
