S-PLUS is a commercial implementation of the S programming language, which is an enhanced version of Bell Labs' S language. The program's main function is for data analysis, statistical modeling, graphics representation and reporting. In 2008, TIBCO Software acquired Insightful Corporation (the company behind S-Plus) and incorporated its functionality into their Spotfire software platform for scientific applications in healthcare and finance research.
